What’s in a name?

Almost every time we meet a new client we get asked about our company name. And we guess it’s good that it’s something different that stands out, something that people remember. It’s way better than something like “Dubai Film &Video” or “Desert Post Production” anyway hehe.

We’ve had a few funny situations where people actually forgot our name, and have called us “Flaming Graphics”, “Thunder Bolt” adn “Rolling Stones” hahaha. But we’re cool with that.

So, there are actually quite a few things that could have inspired our company name.

•There’s an action movie from 1977 called Rolling Thunder, starring Tommy Lee Jones, which is one of Tarantino’s all time favourites. Quentin even called his distribution company Rolling Thunder, as a homage, under which he put out classics like Chungking Express and Switchblade Sisters. But that’s not our inspiration.

•There’s also an annual biker parade in the States called Rolling Thunder. But however much we love the Sons of Anarchy TV-series, this is not what inspired our name.

•During the Vietnam war there was a famous bomb raid operation that was also called Rolling Thunder. Obviously that didn’t inspire us.

•People over 30 might remember the popular arcade game Rolling Thunder, where you play a secret agent that shoots down masked bad guys? Well, that wasn’t it either, although it would have been quite cool if it was.

•And it wasn’t the Bob Dylan concert tour of ’75-‘76 either. No siree Bob.

•And in case any porn connoisseurs are wondering if we got our name from the 1996 masterpiece, the answer is – nope.

No, the secret behind our name comes from Mr Kid Loco. Yup. He made a track called “Here comes the munchies”, in which there’s a line going “It’s like a scratching rolling thunder deep inside of me”. That was the inspiration behind the track, believe it or not.

So now that this matter is out of the way, let’s just continue doing awesome effects work, ok?
